June 2023. One-and-half years in Mozambique. I am sitting on the veranda of the house we rent here overlooking the Indian Ocean while the birds and butterflies pass by. I am not much of a morning person – never have been – but the mornings are the most beautiful here.

I was never interested in this mindfulness lark. For most of my life, anything to do with meditation, spirituality or yoga was just weird “woo-woo” stuff. I was a practical, but fun-loving, atheist who left the Catholic church of my upbringing for many years.
