My story

About Me - Gerry Rickard. Mindfulness meditation retreats in Africa and Online.

Gerry Rickard

Everything has its time.

From the outside, I had what many people strive for: a successful career, international opportunities, and financial security. Yet, after nearly 30 years in marketing, public relations, and the entertainment industry, I left a senior corporate career, a substantial income, and the security that came with it.

There was no safety net—only a growing sense that life was calling me in a different direction. That journey began a couple of years later in 2015 during a holiday in India. Just six months after losing both my parents within 12 days of each other, I joined a yoga retreat in the foothills of the Himalayas and discovered something I deeply needed: a way to reconnect with my body and mind during a time of profound change and reach a place of calmness and stability.

The experience sparked a deeper exploration of mindfulness and what it means to live with greater awareness and purpose. It eventually led me to Wales, UK, where I completed a Master’s degree in Mindfulness-Based Teaching at Bangor University, one of the world’s leading centres for mindfulness research and practice.

Drawing on both contemplative wisdom and modern science, mindfulness has transformed my life and deepened my understanding of how we meet stress, change, and daily life’s challenges.

Today, together with my wife Christina, I live in Vilanculos, Mozambique, overlooking the beautiful Bazaruto Archipelago, where I teach mindfulness and meditation as well as organising retreats from here, to help others cultivate greater resilience, clarity, and wellbeing.

MindWise Mindfulness Meditation Retreats and Courses in Africa and Online

MindWise

Find your inner stillness with MindWise.

At MindWise, I help you reconnect with the calm, clarity, and resilience that can easily get lost in the pressures of everyday life.

Through mindfulness and meditation, you’ll learn practical tools to work with stress, navigate life’s challenges, and cultivate greater wellbeing.

Rather than trying to stop or control your thoughts, mindfulness helps you develop a different relationship with them—one that brings more awareness, balance, and ease.

You can join me for online mindfulness and meditation sessions, a one-to-one course, specific collaboration, join one of our unique retreats in the beautiful surroundings of Mozambique or a tailor made retreat or workshop for example a burnout or stress relief retreat.

Whether you’re experiencing stress, change, loss, or simply seeking more meaning and balance in your life, these practices can help you meet life with greater presence and self-compassion.

Every MindWise experience is tailored to your individual needs. If you’d like to explore how mindfulness, meditation, or a retreat experience could support your wellbeing, I’d be delighted to have a conversation and help you find the path that’s right for you.
