Why Mindfulness in Mozambique?
Mindful Mozambique
Why mindfulness in Mozambique? What’s so special about this place?
I meditate every morning before things get busy around the house and the garden. 6.00 a.m. is the perfect time for this.
Sometimes as I walk to my little practice area, I see the slow drift of a dhow sail passing along the Indian Ocean at the bottom of my garden. I hear the breeze whispering through the palm fronds and the occasional crowing of a cockerel. I sit and experience it all.
This is mindful Mozambique. A place to breathe in the soul of Africa and breathe out and let go of your anxieties, worries and stress. The perfect place to get away from it all, enjoy watching African life pass by, and find time to look within, meditate and spend some time with yourself.
Living here has taught me many lessons – patience and accepting things for what they are being two of the most important ones. They are applicable to both my meditation practice and my life here in general. The patience of letting things unfold in African time (much different than in Europe!). And accepting that life unfolds in a different rhythm here – not the way how I expect or want it to unfold. That’s what makes life here both challenging and rewarding.
You can also experience this by coming to visit us here in Vilanculos to see how we live and take part in your own personalised mindfulness retreat. You can then the lessons learned in your own life when you go back home.
Mindful Holiday in Mozambique
Spending time in Mozambique with us on a mindful holiday, you can enjoy the hustle of the local market as well as the pristine beauty of beach life here, where you can buy fish directly from the fisherman as they arrive back to shore in their dhows.
It’s a place to relax and find the stillness and calmness within through a personalised retreat planned with me in advance, whatever your experience level is, even if you have never meditated before. A combination of the beautiful holiday experiences that are available here, with a journey within to discover yourself.
Imagine a day on a paradise island which you can see from our house, an island with few or no inhabitants, where you can snorkel on a colourful reef, bathe in the sun and eat fresh prawns cooked on a grill beside you. Then coming back to shore to have a beer or a cocktail at the local beach bar. And, if you like, a final evening meditation together, before laying your head down.
That rooster might wake you up the next morning, but he’s a perfect meditation “alarm clock” to sit and welcome the African sun and the breath and spirit of Mozambique into your life. And then do it all over again.
