One-Day Retreat Maputo
Perfectly Imperfect
One-Day Retreat, The Fab Lab, Maputo, December 8th, 2024
We can never learn anything if we don’t make mistakes. We can also learn by accepting our imperfections and vulnerabilities. We also see them as ‘mistake’ that we need to ‘correct’. We want to be a ‘better’ version of ourselves. Whatever that means!
The Japanese concept of wabi-sabi centres on the acceptance of impermanence and imperfection. It celebrates imperfection and impermanence – the beauty of a mouldy prayer flag; a worn ornament. A chip or crack in a vase makes the object more interesting.
Our practice should also celebrate our imperfections – our willingness to accept ourselves as we are, imperfections and mistakes included.
The art form of kintsugi celebrates the spirit of wabi-sabi, the process whereby broken pottery is put back together and the cracks and joins highlighted with gold. They become more appreciated because of their imperfections.
So too can we appreciate our own lives by embracing our so-called imperfections, weaknesses and failures. In doing this we celebrate our wholeness, our unique beauty and our resilience. We are not broken. We are the perfection of who we already are, complete in all of our faults and blemishes.
Join me and Sia at Maputo’s The Fab Lab, for a one-day yoga and meditation retreat which will celebrate the perfection of our imperfections.
